DEAR TARGET, 24 HOUR BLITZ!
So a very small group of designers and I wanted to start up some discussion and debate about the recent Target Corp. news.
For those of you who don’t know, Target Corp. donated $150,000 to a group that is running ads backing conservative Republican candidate Tom Emmer, who opposes same-sex marriage. Target, which is based in Minnesota, has defended its donations to the group, called MN Forward, by stating that they were tied to Emmer’s positions when it comes to creating a positive environment for businesses, not his stance on social issues.
Within a 24hour window time frame, we designed a campaign that allowed people in the Twin Cities (and beyond) to reply with a personal “letter to Target.” We screen printed 110 x 1-color posters and posted them up around Minneapolis, St. Paul, Coon Rapids, Savage, and other towns in Minnesota. The community was able to physically write their responses on the posters, or they could reply on our website DEARTARGET.COM, or they could reply on our Twitter (twitter.com/deartarget or hashtag: #deartarget). They can also become a fan on our facebook page!
Anyway, if you have any feelings toward Target or just want to talk about Corporations getting involved in Political Affairs, you’re more than welcome to make a post on our website :)
